The difference between a Family Physician and a General Practitioner

The difference between a Family Physician and a General Practitioner

After their medical degree, a family physician does four additional years of specialist training in Family Medicine. They are your go-to person for all things health-related — they specialise in providing primary care and comprehensive health services. They'll take care of you and your entire family, from your grandma down to your little nephew.

As your go-to healthcare practitioner, this is what we do for you:

  1. Diagnose and treat acute illnesses, minor injuries, and chronic health conditions.
  2. Provide preventative care, such as check-ups for children and cancer screenings.
  3. Manage and treat mental and emotional health issues, including depression, anxiety, ADHD and patients on the Autism Spectrum.
  4. Prescribe medications and other treatments when necessary.
  5. Counsel patients on lifestyle changes, such as exercise and nutrition, to prevent or manage chronic conditions.
  6. Refer patients to specialists or other healthcare providers when necessary.
  7. Educate patients and their families about health and wellness topics, such as disease prevention and management.

At Dr Britz’s practice, we employ a holistic approach to care, focusing on the whole person and their family. We help you stay healthy and support you in managing your conditions throughout your life.
