The difference between a Family Physician and a General Practitioner
The difference between a Family Physician and a General Practitioner
After their medical degree, a family physician does four additional years of specialist training in Family Medicine. They are your go-to person for all things health-related — they specialise in providing primary care and comprehensive health services. They'll take care of you and your entire family, from your grandma down to your little nephew.
As your go-to healthcare practitioner, this is what we do for you:
- Diagnose and treat acute illnesses, minor injuries, and chronic health conditions.
- Provide preventative care, such as check-ups for children and cancer screenings.
- Manage and treat mental and emotional health issues, including depression, anxiety, ADHD and patients on the Autism Spectrum.
- Prescribe medications and other treatments when necessary.
- Counsel patients on lifestyle changes, such as exercise and nutrition, to prevent or manage chronic conditions.
- Refer patients to specialists or other healthcare providers when necessary.
- Educate patients and their families about health and wellness topics, such as disease prevention and management.
At Dr Britz’s practice, we employ a holistic approach to care, focusing on the whole person and their family. We help you stay healthy and support you in managing your conditions throughout your life.
